Camera Angles and Movements
Tilt
Tilt
Tilt is when the camera moves up and down. in order to carry the shot out you can use a tripod and slowly tilt the tripod up and down slowly and that is how you carry out a tilt. This shot would be used to show the whole subject in the shot, the subject will tend to be the artist. so the tilt can be used to establish the artist. an example of this would be the video for "Upper Alcheon" by Travi$ Scott. at 3 minutes we can establish that he is the artist.
Arc
Arc is a angle used to establish that the world revolves around the artist, in order to carry this shot out you need to let your subject stay in a certain area and then as the camera operator you need to walk around the artist. this technique is commonly associated with the genre grime a good example of a music video containing Arcs would be " The Game is Mine" by C-Biz. this shot in the video is used to show the people and the world that revolve around him.
Track Away
A track away is used creates the effect as if the camera operator is running away from the artist this is used in order to make the artist look powerful, dominant and aggressive. regarding how to film a track away, you need to have some sort of steady cam or some sort of gimbal and what you have to do is have the artist walk towards you , looking into the camera and then you keep a meter gap between the artist and you being the camera operator. a good example of this was "Know Me From " By STORMZY.

Dolly In
A dolly in is when you have a camera placed on a track and slowly and steadily you would move closer to the. in order to pull off this movement you require a track for the camera to move along. At minute and 38 seconds of the track "used to this" the camera moves toward the artist slowly. the purpose of this being used in music videos is that it is an effect shot that can distinguish the artist in such a busy environment.
Low Angle
The purpose of using a low angle is to make the artist look dominant, powerful and a threat to the audience , for example the low angle is crucial when making a chracter looking bigger then they are. in order to achieve a low angle, it requires the camera to be low however you face the lens up so all of the subject are in the shot. a good example of when this is used would be at 1.02 in the music video for "MAD" by Bugzy Malone.
High Angle
The purpose of a high angle can be used in two meanings that you are trying to potray for example one of them being to show the vulnerability of a subject however the other meaning would be used to show the insignificance of a subject. In order to film this shot you would have to have the camera placed in a high location and then you would place the subject in the shot below you, this can give the effect that the artist is camera shy, scared and vulnerable.
Canted or Dutch Angle
The purpose of using a canted angle in music video can be used to the show how the music effects the artist also it can be used to show whats going on in the artist's head. in order to film this shot you would usually use a tripod and you would tilt the head to the left or the right and then you would gradually tilt it back across to the opposite side. a good example of a canted angle would be in "That Part" ScHoolboy Q.
Crash Zoom
The purpose of using a crash zoom would be to show something so crucial in a shot such as a reaction or something that is relevant and important. in order to pull this technique off you need to zoom rapidly so when the reaction is due, you zoom with the lens in order to deliver a fast and abrupt zoom. a good example of this would be when the actor playing Micheal Jackson's girlfriend reacts from him turning to a beast at 8.25.
Birds eye view
The purpose of using a birds eye view shot would be used to show that the artist is vulnerable and lonely however it can create mystery because we can not see everything placed in the shot. in order to use this technique you would have to stand about the artist and gradually move the camera higher and higher a good example of a birds eye view is "California king bed" by Rihanna.
Handheld
The purpose of using handheld when filming a music video can be used to create and gritty and nostalgic effect of a VHS camera however a handheld can be used in chases. in order to achieve this effect you would not use a tripod or a steady cam. a good example of this would be "Thats Not Me by Skepta and JME.
Comparison to my Summer music video
If I compare the techniques I've looked at I would say I have only covered a few in my summer music video i made with Eunice and Daniel. The most dominant camera movement in my summer music video would be a Track away, for example the video was one long track away with a few cuts. the other movements and angles I used were Tilts and a low angle. I feel as if the look of my summer video was inappropriate for the genre associated with the track I used. when creating the music video for "So Long" i used "Know Me From" as a good example and guideline that i could follow for example incorporating the artist chasing the camera, when the song is in full flow. so thats where I got the idea of the tracking away shot.
