Proposal
The purpose of my report being made is to create a pitch which can enhance my chances of a producer noticing my work and making it into a feature film. The name of my film is Followed. the genre of the film would be a horror but it will not be your typical horror because in my research 2 out of 3 people said that jump-scares are overused in most modern day horror films.I researched trends which gave me the majority of my target audience which was people between the age of 16 and over. I believe my short film would suit my audience because the plot is based on social networking which could appeal to people 16 and over. For the budget of my film i need to consider my location fees, and other expenses such as equipment hire.

My Idea: short summary
Girl meets boy on twitter,But the boy is following her in real life. screen blacks out and then girl is being tortured at an abandoned environment. this idea is based off of a girl who got too engulfed in the internet and fell in love with this online figure and they decide to meet and she decides not to inform her parents and she is found tied to a chair in a warehouse covered in blood.

Hook: the fact that the girl meets the boy but she doesn't know the truth about the boy. so this engages the audience into the overall experience. with the audience wanting to find out about the mysterious online boy.

Twist: the girl wakes up covered in blood in a mysterious abandoned location, leaving the audience on edge. this leaves the audience to think how she got there and why she got there and the boys identity is revealed and he isn't who he meant to be.

The Film Rating
the way i researched the rating of my film was by comparing the rating of the films which inspired my idea. for example i used the film trust for inspiration and trust was rated a 15 due to the use of strong language, and infrequent sexual violence. below you can see a screen shot from the BBFC website to show what content is suitable for a film rated 15.

Unique Selling Point
My unique selling point is that usually thriller films are based on murder or house invasion but I have thought about combining a plot about a sexual online predator and a young innocent girl with aspects of kidnap and rape. So my film is when Trust meets Taken. Also my unique selling point is the fact it will be based around social media.

Primary Research

I searched through the comment section trying to find people who discussed about the technical side of film and Jose Rivera mentioned about jump-scares being used to frequently in modern day films of the horror genre. Also after looking through comments I found out that 80% of people were more interested in a film which would have been based on a true story. Also i found out that Jose and a few others were aged between the ages of 18 to 32 so i know that my target audience is these sort of people.

Secondary Research

After searching the web for articles related to the plot of my story, I found a few links such as crimes committed, song lyrics and Films. so i found existing shows such as catfish which is when people find love online and start thinking about meeting the person in real life but it isn't always who they expected it to be, which links to my one minute short film. below are some links related to true stories and public social experiments, I think when you have a film which is based on a true story it can enhance the overall traumatic experience of the character.

External Links:

the links i found were associated with online child predators being caught and tracked down and the others are about cases when the child or teenager has been raped or murdered. when researching i found a youtuber called Cody Persin who decided to create a social experiment. when he pretended to be a local boy in the area and then he contacted the parents of the girls which he was chatting to for days and the results were shocking due to every daughter went and met Cody but he was accompanied by there parents some girls even gave their own addresses.

Finance

When wanting to create movies and you realise you need money they're certain methods for example

  • Kick-starter - is the world's largest website which help people fund ideas and projects over the world.

  • BFI - this stands for the British Film Institute which helps smaller companies get promoted.

  •  Private Finance - is a loan company which is used for specific specifications.

  • Investors - will venture into your projects and support you financial for either the whole of the cost or part of it with a group of other investors.

  • National lottery - offers funding on a charitable basis to charities who work on projects.

companies such as these invest money into small content creators.

Facilities

When filming my production I will need obvious things such as lighting which will affect how professional my film looks.  Also I will require a tripod to hold the camera still.  For post production I will need an editing suite with programmes such as Final cut pro, Photoshop to add various special effects.  Due to me being in college I will not have to pay to use resources, but if I was not a member of the college to dry hire an editing suite would cost £250.00 a day.

Locations:

Distribution
 Film Festivals:

• London Short Film Festival• Edinburgh International Film Festival
• London Short Film Festival
• Encounters International Short Film Festival *Oscar qualifying

Also this film will be distributed on sites such as YouTube due to me finding my target audience on the site. another factor of distribution would be Netflix to to them being an international company this means they avoid UK regulations when releasing content on to Netflix and the internet. if it was to be a British film which was to be distributed on British cinema and DVD it would have to follow the regulations of the BBFC and follow the rules and regulations in order to get a certified legal rating.

RESEARCH INTO DISTRUBUTION

How can I choose appropriate films, TV and music videos for my family to watch online on their computers, tablets, games console and smartphones?
The BBFC works with a number of on demand services to provide trusted age ratings for video content available for download and streaming online. Some of these platforms also provide parental controls allowing parents to make available to their children films with an appropriate age rating for them. The BBFC and home entertainment industry recognise that this is helpful to parents when both they and their children are selecting film or TV content to stream or download.
For more information about the pilot to age rate music videos online, visit our Online Music Videos page

Why are digital age ratings useful?
Providing BBFC age ratings for online content allows viewers to make the same informed viewing and purchasing choices for themselves and their families when using Digital Video Services, as they do when visiting the cinema or renting or buying DVDs and Blu-ray.
In 2011 the BBFC commissioned some research which showed a public demand for the same BBFC ratings to be available for online content as for DVDs and Blu-rays in shops and for films at the cinema. The research found that 82% of parents prefer to download films that are classified with the trusted BBFC age ratings, symbols and BBFCinsight information. This research is available on our research page.

BBFC has persuasion job over online ratings
Online-only shows, such as Netflix's House of Cards, are not legally covered by BBFC ratings so the organisation is on a mission to persuade.

"That is the family silver for us," said Mark Dawson, chief digital officer for the British Board of Film Classification, as he discussed the way the organisation's ratings logos - 18, PG, U - have embedded themselves in public consciousness.
Everyone knows what the ratings mean, and according to the BBFC's research at least, almost everyone agrees with its assessment of what it is appropriate for young people to watch.
"We just implement the guidelines, which are set by public consultation," said Mr Dawson.
In cinemas and shops, the judgment of the BBFC's classifiers is protected by law. The 1984 Video Recordings Act and insists that it gives an age rating to all commercially distributed films.
At the time this meant cinema and video, and because of the way the law was written, it still does. The MPs of 1984, stirred by the "video nasty" furore, legislated without the benefit of technological clairvoyance. Their definitions were broad enough to cover DVDs or even films loaded on USB sticks, but not a world where digital downloads from iTunes, or streaming from Netflix or Amazon's LoveFilm are rapidly usurping "packaged med

Mr Dawson's task is to make sure the BBFC's family silver maintains its value as the film industry migrates online.
Without statutory backup, his is a job of persuasion. He must persuade film companies and the big digital retailers and services to pay for their creations to be classified for online consumption (as well as cinema and DVD) and to show the BBFC rating and incorporate it into login controls so parents maintain their trust in the system.
Progress has been made. Some 250,000 films have now been been classified for online consumption and major players such as BT Vision and Netflix are using the ratings.
The BBFC is particularly pleased that Netflix submitted its hit Washington-based remake of House of Cards for classification. Made for the internet, and released as 13 episodes simultaneously last month, it was widely seen as the start of an important trend in entertainment. The BBFC gave all the episodes a 15 rating, except one, which featured a graphic suicide and got an 18.
"We're not about censorship and haven't been for a long time," said Mr Dawson. "We're about giving people the information they need."
Netflix will surely test that claim later this year when it debuts Hemlock Grove, another exclusive, created by Eli Roth. The director is best known as the founder of the "torture porn" genre with his sadistic 2006 horror film Hostel. Subsequent imitators 2009's Grotesque and 2011's Human Centipede 2, were both refused any classification.
Theoretically, if Netflix's adventure in original content produce something so distasteful the BBFC does not award a classification, it could simply go ahead and distribute it anyway.
"If self regulation doesn't work then there is the possibility of new legislation," said Mr Dawson, "it would take changing two words in the law."
He strongly emphasises, however, that the BBFC is not seeking and would not seek new powers to regulate internet firms and that the government supports its attempt to bring the online industry on board voluntarily.

To prove it can work, the BBFC needs to persuade Apple and Amazon, the dominant forces in internet film distribution, to use respect and display its ratings.

Research Log
My one minute short film is called followed i have based it on a current film with a similar plot called Trust.
it is based on:
A suburban family is torn apart when fourteen-year-old Annie (Liana Liberato) meets her first boyfriend online. After months of communicating via online chat and phone, Annie discovers her friend (Chris Henry Coffey) is not who he originally claimed to be. Shocked into disbelief, her parents (Clive Owen and Catherine Keener) are shattered by their daughter's actions and struggle to support her as she comes to terms with what has happened to her once innocent life.

Tagline: What took her family years to build, a stranger stole in an instant.

Primary Research

Research
Jose discussed how the genre of horror is beginning to die due to the frequent overused technique called a jump-scare. although he mentions that the film is still scary. between there are similar comments but they mention that the jump-scare had made this segment in the film.
Also my target audience is based upon the age of 18 and over due to the fact that short films should be technical and should make you think.

Jump scares ruin a LOT of potentially good horror scenes. This is part of the reason why horror in general is dead.
I'll be perfectly honest. Heart was racing throughout but when the jump 'jump scare' happened I was disappointed.

MAN ARRESTED FOR USING SOCIAL MEDIA TO LURE, KIDNAP TEEN

Thursday, March 05, 2015

A Riverside man was arrested on suspicion of using social media and the promise of a job at Amazon to lure and kidnap a 19-year-old girl.
On Wednesday, authorities say Aaron Misael Viteri Vera, 22, lured a victim to Chino Hills by falsely representing himself as an employer for Amazon. He then held the victim against her will.
He had met the victim on a social media site Meetme.com designed to connect people for social, personal and professional relationships. The victim posted her profile as seeking employment.

Vera, who used the screen name
Jay Delgado, communicated with the girl for weeks through the application and in text messages promising her employment at the Amazon warehouse. According to authorities, Vera told the girl his name was "Jay" or "James."

On Feb. 26, Vera and the victim were scheduled to meet at a Chino Hills Subway to discuss possible employment with Amazon. He then waited for the victim in his car and told her he no longer wanted to eat at the restaurant.

Vera offered to drive the victim to Wendy's instead. She got in the car and Vera began driving on the 71 Freeway. He then took her cellphone and refused to give it back to her

When the victim realized they were no longer heading toward Wendy's she became alarmed and a brief struggle ensued in the car.
The victim opened the door to jump out of the car, but Vera allegedly grabbed her by the waist of her pants, attempting to keep her in the vehicle.

As he began to slow down the car, the victim jumped out of the car and ran. She reported the incident to police, who investigated the matter.
Detectives and deputies from the Multiple Enforcement Team at the Chino Hills station served a search warrant at Vera's house in Riverside Wednesday morning.

He was then taken into custody and booked at West Valley Detention Center for kidnapping and outstanding warrants for robbery.
According to authorities, Very had documents with names of other women and several profiles on various social media sites. Detectives believe there may be additional victims.

"People should be aware that even if they are on a site that has a great reputation, keep in mind that not everyone on there is there for the right reasons," said Cindy Bachman, public information officer for the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.
