Theme

Task 3c:Compare and Summarise
What is the theme of the Suite?

when it comes to comparing all themes, three of them are based around the theme of Christmas. during all the Christmas idents there conventions of Christmas placed within each ident for example things such as snow, trees, presents and the iconic figure "Santa". when it comes to the ITV suite of idents the theme was "Santa". when it comes to the BBC Three ident has the theme of Christmas in general. When it comes to the Sumo TV ident there is a theme of Christmas that has a comedic approach. The two other idents are based around campaigns the first example has a campaign with the BBC based around the idea of diversity and unity within a generation of England.Regarding the theme on the last video is based around the idea of  film genre in order for us to establish this they used a celluloid film effect. however when i compare to the Idents I made  with the them of "a House is a Home" so this is completly different to a seasonal ident. my suite that i made is recognizable because it shows conventions and conveys tones as to what it is to be like at home for example cosy and warm.
How does the theme appeal to the viewers?

the theme can appeal to the viewers because the theme is Christmas and create can interest a vast amount of people for example this could attract young family with kids because the theme creates conventions of being exciting and happy also when comparing all the other suites of idents they can be similar because the theme of Christmas is apparent throughout and it also conveys tones of love and togetherness that can appeal to the audience. most of the idents I'm comparing tend to be heart warming which can be directed towards families however the film 4 ident is quite critical as it shows the genre of film which can generate fear and suspense for the audience

Task 3b: Suite of idents

Analysis of Idents: ITV

What is the Theme of this suite?
This suite of idents is a seasonal suite based around the theme of christmas, the theme of the idents is "Santa". so in our first ident we have have "Santa's" riding around on a carousel and then in the next ident we have "Santa's" feasting on food and socialising. In the last to idents of this suite the theme of "Santa" tends to be a lot more subtle as opposed to the other two. The third ident is subtle because "Santa" appears as a flashing "Santa" light that is subtlety placed in the back ground attached to a window. The Fourth Ident is also subtle because "Santa" is placed on a wrapping that the children in the ident are tearing away in order to reveal the gifts.

How and why the Theme appeals to the viewers?
The themes are most likely to appeal with the viewer because the themes of ident are current and are on at the appropriate time for example if the channel uses seasonal idents it shows that the channel is up to date and modern. Also by using a christmas ident you can attract a vast amount of people that enjoy the winter and christmas season. the ident would also appeal to people because the tone coveys feelings such as "Excitement" and "Happiness" which can appeal to an audience with children and young siblings.

How Have they used the same theme to create Brand Loyalty?
Throughout the 4 idents used in this suite of ident for ITV, During the winter season. They have used a massive Fictional character being "Santa" when it comes to a season such as winter, because winter is associated with christmas and "Santa" so ITV create Brand loyalty because they use "Santa" to excite and keep the audience Watching till the end. also brand loyalty comes into the ident towards the end because the ident shows its brand identity by showing its logo which is "recognisable" and "clear".

Are the idents entertainment led or information led?
When reviewing all four of the idents i would say they are entertainment led because the visuals are quite Happy and joyful however these idents are information led because they have a continuity announcer that tells us information such as the scheduling of the programmes which are up next and that are on later and then he would make a reference to the show that is going to be aired next, this is what makes this suite of idents information led.

Are the idents intended to be used at a particular time of the day?
When watching these idents i would say these are intentionally not made for any part of the day so it makes it easier for producers to fill air time, also when they're not appropriated for a time in the day it gives the opportunity to air the ident where and when they want, However some of the idents such as the carousel and the Christmas decorations one you can see that the time of day was in the evening so that can also limit producers as to where and when they can air these idents because it can contradict the timing.

Are these idents intended to be used at a particular time of the year?
when reviewing the idents you can see that the suite of idents are seasonal based and this suite of idents has the them of "Christmas" and "Santa". these idents are most likely to be aired around the upcoming months to Christmas, in order to create excitement for the audience while Christmas nears by. these idents are used to show that the channel is aware of the times and modern to keep up with trends.

How does the suite convey the brands Identity?
This suite of idents for ITV conveys its brand identity because at the end of all four idents, a pull focus is apparent towards the end and then the ITV logo appears with a continuity announcer sharing the schedule for the next hour. Brand identity is mostly apparent from the footage within the ident because Christmas to tends be about spending time decorating or celebrating together which can also give off the theme of "Unity" which will want to make the viewer come back consecutively.

How effective is the design of the suite?
the design of the suite is very effective because the footage in all four idents keeps the audience captivated because the audience when they begin  watching they are waiting to find out what there watching and  then the well know and recognizable ITV logo shows at the in order to create brand identity for the channel and the ident. the visual communications for users that are non visual is quite clear because it can also appeal to non visual because there are things other than visual such as subtle music and a continuity announcer that can grab the attention of a non visual audience. throughout all four idents this appeals to a target audience because the theme and tone of the suite of idents is apparent and clear. when it comes to typography in this ident the typography is clear, readable and recognizable which is key when creating a corporate identity. the pace within the idents is moderately slow however the all have an average duration of 17 secs each. the density of information is screen is quite scarce however the focus is the visual display then then the logo appears. brand identity is very apparent at the end  of every ident which is visible and clear when creating a professional identity for your brand.
