Pre production report
THRILLER Production
The type of production I am making is one minute short film which will be focused on the genre thriller called Followed which will be based on the dark sides of social media.it will be based on a girl who meets a boy on Twitter, but he isn't who he is meant to be and he kidnaps her and she wakes up in an unknown location covered in blood. Pre-Production involves a lot of examples for example, it requires operators of equipment and location hire and many more. here is a list of the crew needed to film the short film:
Actors-Actors will need to convince the audience to increase the send of realism.Director- In control of the Script, Shooting Script and how the film is made.
Director of photography- works with the director to make the film look professional and of artistic style.
lighting technician- works with the camera operator and director to get the correct lighting to create metaphorical meaning.
producer-In control of everything that is pre-production for example recces and call sheets.
Production assistant- Assists the producer in all tasks due to the importance in Pre-production.
The pay scale of film crew can be very expensive. First of all, we have our production workers, Earn £250.00 per day. Then we have our lighting crew, Earn £500.00 per day. At this stage we have to decide whether it is a single camera or multi camera production. This can affect how many camera operators we have on set. With every good visual in a movie, it provides good sound. so a sound crew would be on £450.00 per day. BUT because i am a member of CTK i can hire a camera for free off of Mr French because he has a booking resource sheet which we can book equipment free of charge.
Finance
When wanting to create movies and you realize you need money they're certain methods for example:
Kick-starter - is the world's largest website which help people fund ideas and projects over the world.
BFI - this stands for the British Film Institute which helps smaller companies get promoted.
Private Finance - is a loan company which is used for specific specifications.
Investors - will venture into your projects and support you financial for either the whole of the cost or part of it with a group of other investors.
National lottery - offers funding on a charitable basis to charities who work on projects.
companies such as these invest money into small content creators. For creating my film i'm going to need £50 for example this will cover the price of props, travel and food.
Time
When trying to film your short film, this will require us to be organised when hiring equipment from our college. With this we will have to consider how many days we spend shooting and how long we will spend editing. A reason to consider this is that it will give you the option to reduce costs and may leave a small budget for eventualities. In order to keep the crew organised I would have call sheets which will keep my crew in order and prepared for any situations that they may face.
Crew and Personnel
In my crew it would consist of 4 members. There will be 1 Director, 1 Director of Photography, 1 Producer and 1 Production manager. I find these roles suitable for my crew as they will keep production in time with no issues. Our Director will make big decisions to control the flow of the production.
Jordan: DirectorDue to creative ideas and leadership skills.
Calvin: Director of Photography-Due to having a good understanding of cameras and shot types.
Eunice: Producer-Good with handling budget and other essentials when creating a short film.
Deniesha: Production manager-good with organizing and always prepared.
Facilities
When filming my production I will need obvious things such as lighting which will affect how professional my film looks. Also I will require a tripod to hold the camera still. For post production I will need an editing suite with programmes such as Final cut pro, Photoshop to add various special effects. Due to me being in college I will not have to pay to use resources, but if I was not a member of the college to dry hire an editing suite would cost £250.00 a day. but i will have the mac suite for free in order to edit my video. Also due to me being a student i can get my location price at a student rate. Also i can hire things such as lighting and software.
Material
When trying to find when certain material can be used when trying to avoid the Copyright Act. Companies such as Apple would be paid for product placement. If a payment was avoided, this could result in Copyright strikes or even being sued by the company itself.
Contributors
When casting actors you would have to go through certain agencies in the result for publicity. For example you could goo through accademys such as Brit school and find talented actors or you could go through an agency for example: http://www.sainou.com/. But With me being in college, I will not have to pay actors and they will be my fellow classmates or friends. This results in a low budget which allows you to spend in other areas of the production.
Locations
When finding locations to shoot, it can be very difficult if you do not have permission and often payment is required for the use of their location. As I am a student I would have to ask for permission from the property owner or organisation to where I can shoot my short film. the location i'm using is south-mere lake and this is a location where the famous series called misfits was filmed. so i think this is suitable for my film. This means i have to contact Bexley and Greenwich council and inquire about using the location in order to shoot. If you was attempting to film in a station you will have to got to the council and check what area you are in then you would find the film office appropriate for that area then you will apply for a permit which can cost up to £30 a day at a student rate. http://www.filmoffice.co.uk/
Health and Safety
Health and Safety would be paramount when making my short film as in today society, people or staff will sue if an accident and their safety in put in danger. This to consider:
location - Are there sufficient to say filming is taking place, also tape to highlight area when the production crew are situated.
Equipment - has all equipment been PAC Tested to ensure that the crew do not have any electric shocks.
Props - Are all the props in good working order.
Risk Assessment- i would have a member of my team such as the lighting technician to carry out a risk assessment.
CODE OF PRACTICE AND REGULATION
Music- to prevent copyright strikes i will try to not include using copy righted music by searching on sites such as Uncopyrightmusic.com. Copyrighted music will be protected by the PRS. So all rights are protected by the PRS. (Performing Rights Society)
Use of copyright material- when using copyright items such as a Watch, Phone, or branded clothes to prevent this you could try to avoid using the shot or just cover it with a piece of tape or you can ask for permission in order to present the brand.
Public liability- we will have our public liability from the school and this will protect us from any accident when having to deal with legal disputes.
Regulation- when regulating my film i will have to consider the content so fro example my short film will contain blood and violence but i need to rate it suitably due to the fact that it doesn't contain imitable behavior because my film can cause real life issues for people. I would not get my film regulated by the BBFC due to the fact that, my production is being placed on an online site such as YouTube so regulation would be pointless. BBFC regulations are put in place to recognize the strenght of the content for example there can be strong or mopderate violence so the strenght of the content can reflect upon the movies rating from the BBFC.
